Give an obvious example of an explanatory description and an example of a description that is not obviously intended to explain something. |
Obvious example: I describe how a thermostatically controlled heater works. Not obvious example: I'm describing a phenomenon such as the fact that the temperature in my apartment is always the same. |
I will come back to this difference later and show to what extent I interpret descriptions of phenomena as explanations for my perceptions. |
